“Deadbeat Dads.” They’re a real problem with human families. I’ve mentioned them around Barb’s Dog Rescue. That’s because with dogs, bringing puppies into the world is always the sole responsibility of females. Sadly, the moms alone bear all the weight physically and emotionally. They carry the pups, deliver them, and nurse them. This process of nature is never easy. And for dogs, sometimes it’s downright brutal. Just ask Jasmine.

We are featuring this older black beauty on Day 4 in our 12 Dogs of Christmas series. Jasmine is a “Miracle Mom.” She’s also one of Barb’s oldest gals at Barb’s Dog Rescue in Rocky Point. Jasmine has been a resident there for 8 or 9 years. That’s amazing, especially considering Barb wasn’t sure Jasmine would survive there for 8 or 9 hours.

Wait until you hear Jasmine’s story in the video. Just imagine her carrying a litter of 7 puppies. Just imagine her doing it despite having a human owner who didn’t care for her as a dog, or an expectant mother. Just imagine the challenges she has faced, and the odds she has defied.

Today, the odds are against Jasmine getting adopted and getting to live out her days in a loving Forever Home. Here’s why.

– So far, no one has scooped up Jasmine in the 8 or 9 years she’s been available for adoption at Barb’s Dog Rescue.

– Barbara Mumaugh would not want to separate Jasmine from her best buddy and protector, Poshi.

– Jasmine is a black dog. Why is it so many people seem to have little to no interest in black dogs?
